Tour Overview
Leave the heat of the coast behind and climb into a different country.
Sri Lanka's hill country is where the island turns cool, green and quiet — a landscape of terraced tea estates, colonial bungalows, waterfalls tumbling out of cloud forest, and mornings cold enough to need a jacket. This five-day escape is built for travellers who would rather walk a ridgeline than sit in a vehicle, and who want the highlands properly rather than as a single rushed overnight stop.
You'll begin in Kandy beside the lake, then wind up through the Ramboda pass into Nuwara Eliya — the hill station the British built to remind themselves of home, still full of mock-Tudor houses, a racecourse and a 19th-century post office. From there you'll rise before dawn for Horton Plains, crossing open montane grassland to the sheer 880-metre drop of World's End while the cloud is still below you.
Then comes the part everyone comes for: the train from Nanu Oya to Ella. Three and a half hours through tunnels, tea gardens and mountain villages, doors open, feet dangling, the whole hill country sliding past. It has been called the most scenic rail journey in the world, and it earns it.
Ella closes the trip — a small, easy-going mountain town where you'll hike Little Adam's Peak at sunrise, walk the jungle track to the Nine Arch Bridge, and stand at the foot of Ravana Falls before descending back to the lowlands.
Private vehicle, private guide, reserved train seats, no fixed departure dates.
